Preparing the 21st Century Workforce

Wallingford has diversified its commercial and industrial base over the past decade, attracting high-technology industries as compared to traditional heavy manufacturing. It is the home of a large variety of industries and major corporations spanning the spectrum of the medical, health care, service, hi-tech specialty metal manufacturing and research development. In order to provide qualified workers to the increasingly high-tech companies, Wallingford Adult Education is ready to strengthen the existing basic skills programs by adding this needed workforce prep component. Key Components:
- Provide rigorous basic skills in Reading, Writing and Numeracy with an emphasis on employability skills.
- Incorporate work ethics, teamwork and critical thinking in instruction.
- Integrate current technology with instruciton and provide computer laboratory experience.
- Counselors will be available to guide students in career exploration and help students find opportunities for higher education and work.
- Support services such as childcare will be available.
- Representatives of higher education programs and Connecticut Works will assist students in transition to college and employment.
