Preparing the 21st Century Workforce

Wallingford has diversified its commercial and industrial base over the past decade, attracting high technology industries as compared to traditional heavy manufacturing.  It is the home of a large variety of industries and major corporations spanning the spectrum of the medical, health care, service, hi-tech specialty metal manufacturing and research development.

In order to provide qualified workers to the increasingly high-tech companies, Wallingford Adult Education is ready to strengthen the existing basic skills programs by adding this needed workforce prep component.

Key Components:

  • Provide rigorous basic skills in Reading, Writing and Numeracy with an emphasis on employability skills.
  • Incorporate work ethics, teamwork and critical thinking in instruction.
  • Integrate current technology with instruciton and provide computer laboratory experience.
  • Counselors will be available to guide students in career exploration and help students find opportunities for higher education and work.
  • Support services, such as childcare will be available.
  • Representatives of higher education programs and Connecticut Works will assist students in Transition to College and employment.
