Exploration of Career Pathways

To promote the self-sufficiency of Wallingford Adult Education students and strengthen their response to the rapid changing labor market, this program provides exposure to industry sectors/career pathways that are identified by the South Central CT Workforce Development Board. The sessions are offered to students in diploma preparation and advanced ESL level programs so they may strengthen existing basic skills simultaneously with a workforce preparation component.

Key Components

  • Literacy instruction in reading, writing and math and digital literacy training.
  • Development of “soft skills” such as understanding of ethics, team-work, and critical thinking skills.
  • Individual career and education planning.
  • Exploration and utilization of potential employment opportunities, education and training programs, and employment services.

This program is supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II - Adult Education and Family Literacy.
